It’s a new league; the one that was trying to capitalize on the 1999 World Cup mojo collapsed years ago.
Hmm...Thats not surprising. I don't know how the new league is doing, but if it sticks around it may have more to do with the resurgence of soccer in general (see my comment on the soccer thread). I think many of these girls soccer teams are playing in the men's soccer parks. But, its still boring as hell.

My favourite women's sport: Lingerie Football.

Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) is the top level professional women's soccer league in the United States that began play on March 29, 2009. The league replaced the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), which folded after the 2003 season. The league is composed of 7 teams, with plans to add three teams for the 2010 season.

Women’s professional soccer lasted about five minutes after Brandi Chastain’s famous pose after winning the 1999 World Cup.

your average NBA player playing in the WNBA would actually get called for travelling and would probably foul out about a minute and a half into the game

Heh. Presumably, they'd adjust to the different rules as they do in international play. But, yes.

I doubt that there’s a single woman in the WNBA who could make an NBA team in fair competition.
While that's no doubt true, I would add that the reverse is also true. This is because your average NBA player playing in the WNBA would actually get called for travelling and would probably foul out about a minute and a half into the game. But then, in the WNBA, the refs actually penalize rulebreakers.
