A fascinating era about which less is known than the Roman empire&#039;s zenith a millenium earlier. Somewhere in one of those books it is pointed out that Hardrada means &quot;hard-bargainer&quot; or &quot;rough-customer.&quot; According to Muntz, the Norman invaders led by duke William carried a tattered battleflag that had been carried by the Norman conquerors of Sicily some years earlier.</description>
