A commenter at Tyler Cowen’s place say “every man needs a daughter. ALL of my male friends who had children were changed for the better by having at least one daughter. It is not a wife who socializes a husband, it is a daughter.”
My daughter was born eight months ago tomorrow and she’s certainly changed my life. At this point, however, I doubt she’s changed it more or differently than a son would have.
